  • See files you opened in All Recents — The Opened tab is now part of All Recents. Files you opened in any app appear there at the moment you opened them, next to new and changed files, and each file shows up once.
  • Every date in the list says what it is — In the list view, a small label under each date tells you which one it is: MODIFIED, CREATED, or ADDED for a file that was downloaded or moved in. Files you opened show OPENED when Recently Opened Files is on.

  • FileBo appears much faster on your shortcut — The window shows up the moment you press your FileBo shortcut, instead of waiting for you to let go of the keys.
  • Faster and smoother in many places — Many parts of FileBo respond faster and animate more smoothly, from showing and hiding the window to right-click menus. Plus many small design touches across the app.

  • See files as a list, with details beside them — Press ⌥⌘1, or choose as List under Appearance, to see one file per row with its folder, size and date. The pane on the right shows a bigger preview and the details that matter: where a download came from, which camera took a photo, how long a video runs. ⇧⌘P hides the pane, and ⌥⌘2 brings the icons back.
  • Get back to files you opened — The new Opened tab lists files you opened in any app, even ones you only read. That PDF from this morning is one click away. If the tab isn't there, right-click any tab and turn on Opened. Files you only previewed with Quick Look aren't listed. Idea by James
  • The file you mean comes first in search — Results start with the names that best match what you typed: the exact name first, then names that begin with it. When nothing matches by name, FileBo reads your letters as an abbreviation, so qrep finds quarterly_report.pdf among your recent files.
  • Press Return to open the top result — The first result is highlighted as you type. Press Return to open it, or pick another one with ↑ and ↓ first. Files open in their app, folders open right in FileBo, and scripts are shown in Finder instead of running. ⌘Return shows the result in Finder.
  • Download cloud files with one click — A file that lives in iCloud Drive or another cloud but isn't on this Mac yet shows a small cloud. Click it in the list or the icon view to download the file, and FileBo shows the progress until it's here. Files your browser is still downloading show how much has arrived so far.

Improvements

  • Tabs, folders and Folder Peek open faster — Switching tabs, clicking files and typing in search respond faster, even in long lists. Folders open without a fade, and the first window after launch appears as quickly as any other.
  • Use FileBo with VoiceOver and Voice Control — VoiceOver reads each file as one item, and actions apply to the file you're on. Voice Control recognizes file names as they appear on screen, and search announces the highlighted result.
  • ⌘Z brings ignored and binned files back — After Ignore or Move to Bin, press ⌘Z and the files return to the list right away, still selected. Ignore now asks first, like Move to Bin. Tick Don't ask again to skip the question.

  • Four new tabs — Downloads and Screenshots are on from the start. PDF and Design are there too, switched off until you turn them on from the tab menu.
  • Arrange the tabs you actually use — Drag a tab to move it, right-click any tab to hide or show categories, and pick what tabs look like under Show As: Automatic, Names Only or Icons Only. Tabs that do not fit the window width move into More Tabs at the end of the row instead of scrolling away, and Reset to Default brings the standard set back. Idea by James
  • Favorites: the files you keep coming back to — Right-click any file and choose Add to Favorites, or press ⌥⌘F, and it gets a star in the corner of its tile and a place in the new Favorites tab. Favorites ignore the timeline: a starred file stays there however long ago you touched it.
  • Undo and redo anything with ⌘Z — Every action in FileBo now shares one undo stack. Move a file to the Bin, move or copy it into a folder, rename it, make a new folder, duplicate a file, star it, pin a folder or ignore it: ⌘Z takes it back, ⇧⌘Z does it again.
  • Instant search, the way Spotlight searches — Results start appearing as you type, with no pause. Search covers every file in your home folder, not only the files that are already in your recents, and from four letters on it looks inside documents as well, so a report you remember by a phrase inside it turns up without you naming the file.
  • Last 14 Days, and your scope is remembered — The scope menu in the header now has Last 24 Hours, Last 7 Days, Last 14 Days, Last 30 Days and All, and FileBo reopens with the one you chose last time instead of resetting.

Improvements

  • Lighter on memory and on the processor — FileBo now keeps previews only for the screens you actually look at and releases them when you go elsewhere, so memory stays low through a long session. Idle FileBo with its window hidden leaves the processor alone, and large folders, mass deletions and thousands of files arriving at once no longer keep the window busy. Reported by Michael
  • Smaller improvements across the interface — Deleting shows a spinner on each tile until it is gone, an empty tab tells you what it collects, a renamed file stays in place instead of jumping to the front, and FileBo keeps showing your files even when macOS Spotlight stops responding.

  • Move through folders with the breadcrumbs — Click any folder in the breadcrumbs and it opens right in FileBo, so you can look inside without switching to Finder. From there, step into subfolders as usual, or click the folder above the current one to go up a level; Back and Forward in the pill return you to where you were. Hold ⌘ while clicking a breadcrumb to show that folder in Finder instead. The same works in Folder Peek.
  • All keyboard shortcuts in one window — Choose Help ▸ Keyboard Shortcuts… or press ⌘/ and FileBo shows every key it understands on one page: the commands from the File, Edit, View and Go menus, and the keys that never appear in a menu, like Space to peek into a folder, the arrows to move the selection, typing to start a search, and the keys inside Folder Peek. Keys without ⌘ are ignored while you type in the search field or rename a file.

Improvements

  • Share… from any context menu — Right-click a file, a selection, a tile in Folder Peek or a folder in the breadcrumbs: Share… sits in its own group, like in Finder, and opens the standard share sheet with AirDrop, Messages, Mail and the rest. On macOS 27, Share… and Move to Bin keep their icons in the menu, as they do in Finder.
  • Audio files show their own icon — Music and other audio files get the icon of their type, like every other document, instead of a generic note.

  • Ready for macOS 27 Golden Gate — FileBo uses the current macOS technologies and follows the macOS 27 design, from Liquid Glass to the new menus. Earlier macOS versions (15 and up) are still supported and work as before.
  • Shortcuts for everything, listed in the menu — Every FileBo command now has a keyboard shortcut, and you can see them all in the menu bar while FileBo is open. Since they are regular menu commands, you can reassign any of them in System Settings ▸ Keyboard ▸ Keyboard Shortcuts ▸ App Shortcuts. Among the new ones: ⌘O opens the selected files, ⌘Y shows them in Quick Look, ⌘I opens Get Info, ⌘↩ reveals in Finder, ⌥⌘C copies the path, ⌘1–8 switch tabs and ⌘0 resets the zoom. Idea by cerebra
  • Work inside a folder without leaving FileBo — Double-click a folder and it opens right in FileBo, not in Finder. Inside, you can do what you would do in Finder: sort with Sort By in the header, create a folder with ⇧⌘N, duplicate with ⌘D, paste, select everything with ⌘A or drag across empty space to select a group, and show hidden files with ⇧⌘. The whole folder is listed, however many files it holds.
  • Peek into a folder with Space — Press Space on a folder, like Quick Look on a file, and a panel opens out of the tile with everything inside. It takes you into subfolders just like browsing, but keeps its own settings: make the icons bigger with the slider in the ••• menu, or switch to a list with Name, Date Modified, Size and Kind. Sorting, New Folder, Duplicate and hidden files work here too, and Enter renames a file in place. Press Space again to close the peek.
  • Files show up even when Spotlight lags — At launch FileBo also reads the top level of Desktop, Downloads and Documents directly, so files from the last 7 days appear in your recents even if Spotlight has not indexed them yet. Reported by Steve
  • Apps tab: every app, sorted your way — The Apps tab lists everything in Applications, system apps included, and a sort button in the header orders them by Last Used, Date Updated, Name or Size.

Improvements

  • Less CPU in the background — Grouping passes run one at a time and only when something changed, so FileBo stays quiet while its window is hidden. Reported by Savvas
  • Better with VoiceOver — Theme swatches and sort controls are announced as buttons, and hidden files are read out as hidden.

  • Your window, your size — Drag any edge or corner to resize the window. The ••• menu offers Two rows, One row or Custom, an icon-size slider, and ⌘+ / ⌘− to zoom the tiles.
  • The window opens where you left it — Move the window wherever it suits you — FileBo puts it back in the same spot next time, even after a restart or a reboot.
  • Browse folders right in the window — Double-click a folder and it opens in place, in the same window. Step into subfolders, go back with ⌘[ or ⌘↑, and the folder name stays in the header so you always know where you are. Press Esc to leave the folder and return to your recent files.
  • Paste and move files into any folder — Copy files anywhere — in FileBo or in Finder — then press ⌘V inside a folder to put a copy there, or ⌥⌘V to move them. Right-click empty space for Paste and Move Here.
  • Press Space on a folder and look inside — Press Space on a folder and a panel opens out of the tile with everything inside it. Step into subfolders and back out with ⌘[, Backspace or ⌘↑, press ⌘Y on a file to see it in Quick Look, and drag files straight out into Finder or any other app. Inside, switch between an icon grid and a sortable list. Space again or Esc closes the panel.
  • Apps tab: what you used last — The new Apps tab lists your applications in the order you last opened them, with a dot on the ones running right now.
  • Switch tabs from the keyboard — ⌘← / ⌘→ or ⌃Tab move between tabs — even while you are typing in search, so you can narrow results by tab without touching the mouse.

  • Faster under the hood — Smoother scrolling, zooming and resizing, less work on the main thread, and a set of small refinements across the interface.

  • Word and Excel open in Quick Look right away — Press Space on a document and the preview is there at once — Word, Excel and the other office formats render in full, right in the panel. Nothing to wait for, nothing to open.

  • Downloads appear while they are still arriving — A file your browser is downloading now shows up in the grid the moment it starts, with the browser's own icon in the corner so you can see where it came from, and a byte count that climbs as it arrives. It holds its place while it downloads instead of jumping around, and settles in as an ordinary file the moment it lands. Works with Safari and the Chrome family — Chrome, Brave, Edge, Arc, Opera, Vivaldi.

Improvements

  • Save over a file and it comes back to the top — Export or re-save something onto a file that is already there, and it returns to the front of the list, where you would go looking for it. This now covers the kinds of file that get written over most: audiobooks, e-books, subtitles, configuration files, notebooks and TeX, design and 3D exports, and the remaining audio and video formats.
  • 0% CPU while idle — With the window closed, FileBo sits at zero — nothing ticking in the background, nothing spent on your laptop's battery. It also keeps what it has already learned about your files ready to hand, so the list is there the instant you press the shortcut instead of being worked out again.

New

  • Rename files and folders right in FileBo — Press Enter (or F2) on a selected tile and the name opens for editing in place. It comes up selected without its extension, so typing replaces the name and the extension stays put — Esc steps back, clicking away keeps what you typed. A renamed item rises to the top of the list, and the selection and the view follow it there.
  • Opening a file now lives on ⌘↓ — Enter used to be a second shortcut for opening; it now starts a rename, the way Finder works. ⌘↓ opens the selected file exactly as before, and Space still gives you Quick Look.

Improvements

  • The window is there the instant you press the shortcut — FileBo now does its heavy indexing work off to the side, so the panel opens immediately even while thousands of files are being catalogued in the background — including large cloud folders syncing.
  • The panel opens where you are — It now appears on the desktop you are currently working on, including over a full-screen app.

  • FileBo now speaks German, Spanish, Russian and Ukrainian — The whole app is translated — every screen, menu, hint and dialog. Pick your language in Settings ▸ General; it changes right away, no restart.

Improvements

  • Switch language without restarting — “System” follows your Mac, or you can pin FileBo to one language regardless of what the rest of the system does. Windows and menus follow along the moment you choose.
  • Easier to read, in either appearance — A visibility pass over the interface: highlighted words, coloured accents and small labels now hold their contrast on a bright background as well as a dark one, so nothing fades into the surface behind it.

  • Release notes, right in the app — After every update FileBo shows you what changed. You can open it any time from Help ▸ What's New, from the ⚙︎ menu in the window footer, or from the menu-bar icon.

  • A cleaner light theme — A full contrast pass over Light Mode: badges, the trial pill, folder-access labels, volume tiles and the review stars all read more clearly on a bright background. Dark Mode keeps the look you know.
  • Search speaks your keyboard's language — The search field follows the input source you've selected, so Russian, Ukrainian, German and other layouts type through exactly as you expect.
  • Steadier external drives — Ejecting shows a spinner until macOS has fully released the drive, a volume keeps its eject button after you copy files to it, and drives FileBo can't reach are clearly marked so you always know where you stand.
  • A much faster cold start — The first files land in a second or two and the rest of your recents stream in right behind them. FileBo also carries more of its index between launches, so opening the window on a busy Mac feels instant.
  • Calmer cloud folders — Proton Drive, iCloud and Google Drive touch files in the background all day long. FileBo now tells those housekeeping touches apart from your real edits, so the grid stays still and your Mac stays quiet even with a large vault or photo library.
